THOMPSON & LITTON, a multi-disciplined firm with an established practice, which includes both public and private sector clientele, has an opening for a Resident Project Representative in Princeton, West Virginia. This position could expect to be assigned to various public water line and gravity sewer line projects as well as water and sewerage treatment plant projects.

Minimum requirements are a High School Diploma and some field related experience. The ideal candidate will have a construction or engineering background/education with 5-10 years of experience, preferably in waterline extensions and water treatment plant construction. This is a full-time position with a wage of $20 to $25/hour depending on experience. Responsibilities:

  • Site observation to ensure the Work progresses in accordance with the Contract Documents
  • Record keeping – maintains a daily logbook and/or daily reports of all activities occurring at the project site
  • Provide progress reports
  • Review Contractor pay requests and progress schedules
  • Prepares and maintains Record Drawings of construction installations and deviations from plans
  • Review equipment operation and material on job site
  • Interprets specifications as related to materials and workmanship
  • Observe and document construction and testing activities
  • Assist the A/E with substantial completion and final completion inspections
  • An RPR is the A/E’s agent at the project site, and will act as directed by and under the supervision of the A/E

RPR’s are also commonly referred to as Construction Inspectors or Project Inspectors. The project involves gravity sewer, force mains and pumping stations,

The ideal candidate will either have a High School Diploma and prior experience as an RPR and/or construction experience on sewer improvements projects or waterline extensions, or engineering background/education with 5-10 years of experience involving sewer improvements projects or waterline extensions. This is a temporary position that the candidate will hold throughout the duration of the project. Forty (40) hours a week is to be expected. The project has been bid and is anticipated to begin this fall, lasting approximately 425 days to substantial completion with a 60 day closeout period.

RPR Responsibilities:

    Job Duties & Responsibilities:

    A Rodman is in charge of transporting and setting up the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey. The task of surveying has tremendous significance when it comes to determining property lines.

    Survey Setup:

    • Load all needed equipment into the vehicles before heading out to the various properties that the crew will survey during the day.
    • keep the company vehicle, tools and equipment clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns
    • Clear any brush or trees away from the survey line.
    • Lays out stakes to prepare for elevation measurements.

    Assisting the Field Engineer/Surveyor:

    • Assist with layout of Horizontal and Vertical control lines for concrete formwork, anchor bolts, and MEP layout.
    • Operate Total Station and level to obtain accurate measurements for control and as-builts.
    • Assist with collecting information from the field.
    • Holding the prism pole steady for the surveyor to help determine elevations of different points.
    • Hold and plum rod in obtaining elevations and distances.
    • Measures how far different points are from each other, using a tape or electronic equipment, and helps with the various pieces of survey equipment.

    Job Requirements: 

    • Education – High School Diploma (or GED / High School Equivalence Certificate)
    • 1-year experience preferred, assisting in surveying procedures and  operations but not required.
