THOMPSON & LITTON, a multi-office E/A firm with an established practice, which includes both public and private sector clientele, is currently seeking a Civil Engineer. We are seeking self-motivated, self-starters, who are eager to work in a collaborative environment to help solve our clients’ problems. The position is open in our Bristol, Tennessee, Princeton, West Virginia, or in Radford or Wise, Virginia offices. The ideal candidate would have 4 to 10 plus years of experience, preferably a Licensed Professional Engineer or eligible to sit for the exam, with a civil or environmental engineering education/background, and experience in water & wastewater design. The depth and type of your experience, professional goals, and skills, may interest us as much, or more, as your years of experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Review of municipal and applicable local, state, and federal agency regulations to determine design parameters.
  • Be familiar with agency procedures and regulations pertaining to municipal water and wastewater systems.
  • Performs site visits, research and due diligence on projects as required to provide the background information to start a new project.
  • Development of conceptual layouts based on clients’ objectives and results of due diligence work.
  • Manage, plan, and provide design and or design oversight of water/wastewater line and plant projects.
  • Performs supporting calculations to demonstrate designs meet all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
  • Preparation of Technical Specifications.
  • Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates.
  • QA/QC of own designs and designs completed by others.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Responsible for organizing all aspects of submittals and deliverables.
  • Monitors own work and that of project team to ensure budgets and schedules are being met.
  • As level of experience progresses, may be asked to train less experienced team members in day-to day-activities including routine technical design, processing, and company procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Strong Proficiency in WaterCad and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • PE registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia or ability to become licensed within six to 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the design of water distribution or sewerage collection systems.
  • Experience in the design of water/wastewater treatment plants.
