James C. Thompson is a principal of the firm, serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and has managed T&L’s Tazewell, Virginia office since 1984.  He is a 1979 graduate of Emory & Henry College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Economics.

Jim began his career at T&L in 1981 and has served the firm in several capacities including Construction Administrator, Vice President – Project Management, and Vice President – Marketing prior to his present position as Chairman. Jim is responsible for the firm’s overall business acquisition effort, utilizing his expertise in the innovative financing and delivery of projects in both the public and private sectors to assist T&L clients in the realization of projects.

During his 30 years, Jim has been involved in the development, planning, funding and construction of engineering, architectural and transportation projects. He has served as either Project Manager or Principal-in-Charge on many of the firm’s projects with the Virginia Department of Transportation including Construction Management Services for the $30 Million Route 23 Project in Powell Valley (Wise County), Virginia.

Jim’s expertise in innovative financing and creative project delivery is evidenced by the Public/Private Partnership for the delivery of the proposed $1.7 Billion Coalfield Expressway in Wise, Dickenson, and Buchanan Counties, in Virginia that he helped to develop.
