Two T&L Projects Receive Award
Wise, VA – Thompson & Litton was recognized with the 2011 AIA Richmond Merit Design Award for the Virginia Commonwealth University Dental Clinic design for the Wise, Virginia location. Each year, AIA Richmond’s design awards program seeks projects which embody a broad range of architectural work by licensed architects as well as interns and recognizes the special contributions to the built environment by individuals outside of the profession.
Thompson & Litton was the Architect of Record for the 7,575-square-foot clinic building which is designed to house 18 patient rooms with a separate housing facility made up of six, two-bedroom apartments located directly behind the clinic. T&L also provided for the engineering design for on-site stormwater management facilities, and a paved, lighted and landscaped parking area. The project development is being managed by T&L’s Vice President – Architecture, Bill Thompson, AIA, LEED AP B+C. The clinic is to be located in Wise County, Virginia.

The projects design, site development, and construction are incorporating the goals and strategies for environmentally sensitive and sustainable design for potential Silver LEED certification and is in coordination with team members HKS and SiteWorks. The $2.8 Million Clinic is waiting funding for construction.
T&L was also recently named as a project contributor for McGraw-Hill’s ENR/Southeast Best Projects of 2011 in the Small Projects category for their participation in the Virginia Tech Visitors & Undergraduate Admissions Center in Blacksburg, Virginia. T&L Surveying Manager Eric Gentry, LS coordinated the construction layout surveying to Construction Manager BE&K for a new $6.8 Million freestanding 18,155 SF, two-story building on the Virginia Tech campus. The new building will provide a central location for University visitors to attend Undergraduate Admissions information sessions, campus tours, receive their visitor’s parking permit as well as gather other information relative to their visit.
