Job Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Johnson City, TN / Radford, VA

Role Overview:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for the full-cycle billing process and the accurate management of the firm’s revenue stream. This role acts as a vital bridge between the project management team and the finance department, ensuring that engineering/architectural/survey contracts are translated into accurate invoices and that cash flow remains consistent through proactive collections and reconciliation. In addition, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for processing payroll with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Project Managers (PMs) to process monthly invoices.
Generate complex invoices according to specific contract terms (Hourly, Fixed Fee, Percent Complete, or Not-to-Exceed).
Ensure all sub-consultant expenses and reimbursable costs are accurately captured and billed.
Maintain and update project-specific billing rates within the accounting system.
Post daily cash receipts (ACH, wires, and checks) and apply them to the correct projects.
Monitor the Aging Report and lead proactive collection efforts by maintaining professional communication with clients at the project manager’s direction.
Research and resolve any billing discrepancies or “unbilled” balances in a timely manner.
Year-End audit support and additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Accounting.
Required Key Skills and Qualifications:
Strong communication skills for interacting with technical Project Managers and external client billing departments.
Understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
An undergraduate degree from a four-year college is preferred, with preference given to those with education in accounting.
Experience with an architectural/engineering firm or construction firm to include project-based billing is preferred.
Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint (ERP), ADP (payroll), and Excel preferred.
Excellent Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift, carry or move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
Ability to sit, stand, and walk, sometimes over uneven terrain.
Visions and hearing levels required to interact physically and verbally in nominally loud environments.
Leadership Responsibilities:
