Carter County schools are in the early stages of a multi-million-dollar expansion to Hunter Elementary School.

The expansion will approximately double the size of the Stoney Creek school, with room for 900 students up from 450. It involves a new gym, new science labs, permanent classrooms to replace trailers, an office for the school resource officer and more.

Director of schools Tracy McAbee said separating parent vehicles from the bus lane will also increase safety.
